• Divide into two teams of four game markers (called mals or "horses") each.
• The first team to get all their mals around the board and back home to the starting point wins YutNori.
• Players take turns tossing four game pieces (called yuts or "sticks") onto the game board.
• Toss outcomes are determined by the position of the yuts. See below for possible outcomes.

Possible Toss Outcomes

Outcome 1: Doh (도): One yut showing a marked side. Move one space.

Outcome 2: Gae (개): Two yuts showing their marked sides. Move two spaces.

Outcome 3: Geol (걸): Three yuts showing their marked sides. Move three spaces.

Outcome 4: Yut (윷): All four yuts showing their marked sides. Move four spaces and have another turn.

Outcome 5: Mo (모): No yuts showing their marked sides. Move five spaces and have another turn.

Outcome 6: Back Doh (백도): If yut with the predominantly white marking is rolled, go back one space.

How to Move Around the Board

Piggybacking. If your mal lands on the same space as another one of your mals, you have an option to form a group and travel (or "piggyback") those pieces around the board together. But remember: If opposing team lands on the same space as one of your groups, all of those mals must go back to the start.

Catch. If a team's mal lands on a spot already occupied by the opposing team, the opposing team has to go back to the start. The team that made the catch gets to roll again and have another turn. The caught mal moves outside the board. It has to begin again at the start of the opposing team’s next turn.

Routes Around the Board

General Route. Follow the square path around the board.

Shortcut. If you land on a marked turning point (corners and center of board), a player can choose to take a shortcut. If you choose to forgo the shortcut, you continue on the outer path around the board.

Back-Doh Escape. If your mal is in the first space and you roll a Back-Doh, go back to the start. This is considered having gone around the board and the victory will be counted on your next turn.
